Accomplishments
Entered Star Fleet Academy as a Midshipman at age 17. Majored in Interplanetary Relations under Professor John Gill. While a Cadet, participated in the Axanar Peace Mission. Switched to Starship training program. Finished in the Top 5 percent of his class. Assigned to U.S.S. Republic, training vessel, as an Ensign. Prevented a near-fatal explosion while aboard, and was subsequently promoted to Leutenant. Given his first deep space assignment aboard U.S.S. Farragut at age 21, under Captain Garrovick. Participated in the initial planetary survey of Neural. Received a Commendation for bravery on Tycho IV, where half the crew was killed by a cloud creature. Assigned as Executive Officer to U.S.S. Alexander, destroyer, at age 27, as Leutenant Commander. Received his first command position when the Captain was killed in a battle with the Klingons, and was subsequently awarded the Medal of Honor and promoted to Captain. Replaced Fleet Captain Christopher Robin Pike at age 30, as the Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise. This made him the youngest academy graduate ever to be assigned as a Starship Captain. Promoted three grades to Admiral in 2265, following the very successful five-year mission. Assigned to Star Fleet Headquarters, Earth, as Chief of Fleet Operations. Returned to command the Enterprise in 2268 as Admiral, replacing Captain William Decker who was temporarily downgraded to Executive Officer. Was sucessful in effecting a solution to the V'GER crisis with only two missing persons reported, Executive Officer, Decker, and Leutenant Ilia. Returned to Headquarters, but as an Inspector during a training cruise was called to duty due to a crisis with the project, code named Genesis. Fought back a surprise attack from the U.S.S. Reliant, before unknowingly commanded by the Eugenics genius Khan Noonian Singh. Defeated Khan and his henchmen, but at the cost of his dearest and closest friend, Spock. However, said he felt young, gazing at Genesis, the planet created from Khan's exploding ship. After returning to earth, Kirk discovered that Spock had implanted his Katra into McCoy. Banded together with the remaining crew, and stole the U.S.S. Enterprise. Returned to Genesis, against Star Fleet orders. Rescued Spock and saved his crew and Leutenant Saavik from certain death due to an unprovoked Klingon attack. However, lost his ship, and far worse, lost his son, Dr. David Marcus as a result of said Klingon attack. Decided along with his crew to return to Earth after three months of exile on Vulcan to face the consequences of his actions in the rescue of his friend and comrad, Captain Spock. While in route, received a planetary distress signal from Earth warning of a probe that was destroying the Earth and rendering every ship in it's path useless. Time traveled to Earth to the year 1986 to pick up two Humpback Whales. Brought them back, dropped them off, and they told the probe what to go do with itself. In the process, brought back the Ceatation Expert, Gillian Taylor to care for the whales. Stood trial with his comrads, including Spock, who at the protest of the President, said, "Mr. President, I stand with my shipmates." Pardoned from all charges except one, disobeying a superior officer. Reduced in rank from Admiral, to Captain (permanent). Given command of the new U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-A. Called to duty after a brief vacation in Yosemite park with Spock and McCoy, to solve a terrorist crisis on Nimbus IV. Lost control of the U.S.S. Enterprise to Spock's half- brother Sybok. Discovered by force that we can go beyond the great barrier. Regained control of the U.S.S. Enterprise after Sybok was killed by the creature he search for, and a brief encounter with the Klingons. Was 'volunteered', by Spock, for a diplomatic peace mission concerning the Klingons. Along with McCoy was accused, sentenced, and jailed for the murder of the Klingon Emmisary. With McCoy, was rescued by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Discovered the crew of a Cloaked Bird of Prey was the culprit in the murder of the Emmisary. Destroyed the Bird of Prey, and saved the peace mission.
Personal History
Kirk was born in 2233 in Iowa on planet Earth. Unmarried. Father, DECEASED. Mother alive on Earth. Brother, Research Biologist, George Samuel Kirk, and his family were killed by the flying parasites on Deneva, Stardate 3287. A Nephew, Peter (23), was raised by his Grandmother. At age 14, James Kirk was visiting relatives on Tarsus IV when Kodos the executioner invoked martial law and slaughtered 2000 colonists. Kirk is one of the two surviving witnesses. Significant romances in Kirk's past include Ruth Bonne, an assistant professor at the Academy; Leutenant Areel Shaw, an attorney in the Judge Advocate's office at Star Base 11; Dr. Janet Wallace, an endocrinologist he met on Earth; Janice Wallace, a Research Planetologist, now undergoing psycotherapy; Miramanee, a descendant of ancient American Indians he met on the planet Amerind; and Dr. Carol Marcus, a Research Biologist, with whom he also had a son, Dr. David Marcus, a Research Biologist, DECEASED.
Medical History
Kirk contracted Vegan Choriomeningitis 24 years ago, and still carries the microorganisms in his blood. He suffered from the Dramian Plague (Stardate 5276), and Rigellian Fever (5843). He is currently in excellent health, and spends much of his leisure time in the ship's gymnasium, excercising in null-gravity. He has a tendency to become overweight, though, and is periodically placed on a special diet.
William Shatner was born on March 22, 1931 in Montreal, Canada. Shatner attended McGill University where he made it his business to be as active in campus theatrical productions as possible. He graduated from McGill in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. By then he had done some voice work on Canadian Radio. Soon he was working with the National Repertory Theater of Ottawa where he earned a wealth of experience. During this time he came to hate fruit salad, which he still hates today. He admittedly wanted to become an actor of the caliber of Sir Lawrence Olivier (ha, ha ... my note). He joined the Stratford, Ontario repertory company. For three years he played in Shakespeare and other classical writers of the stage. At the age of 25 he won the Tyrone Guthrie Stratford Festival Scholarship and used it to move to New York City. In the fifties a lot of TV production originated in New York City, and Shatner took advantage of that, managing to land one role after another without having to pound the pavement for years trying to prove himself with sporadic roles. He played in such movies as "The Brothers Karamazov", and declined television roles in shows such as Dr. Kildare and The Defenders. After playing in The World of Suzie Wong, he moved to Hollywood and worked in many films and TV series. In 1965 he agreed to star in a TV pilot for a show called Star Trek. While the series did sell and ran for three seasons, it brought Shatner popularity and recognition, but at the cost of his marriage. During the seventies he played in movies such as The White Comanche, Impulse, The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Andersonville Trial. During the filming of this he met Marcy Lafferty, who later became his second wife. In 1974 he reprised his role as Captain Kirk for 18 episodes of the animated version of Star Trek. In 1979, Star Trek The Motion Picture was released. By now Shatner found himself competing directly with his co-star Leonard Nimoy, and he was unhappy that their contracts gave them financial parity. It was also with some chagrin that Shatner heard that Nimoy would be the director of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. He finally got his chance at directing in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. He followed up with roles in T.J. Hooker, and hosting Rescue 911. He managed to make an even bigger name for himself outside of Star Trek with the TEK novel series, which had been sold to Universal where it was made into a TV series in 1994. William Shatner has continued to run hot and cold on Captain Kirk. While he stated that he was willing to gracefully exit the role with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, a few months later he was discussing story ideas for a possible Star Trek VII with Paramount. Paramount passed on the proposal, and as we know it, made Star Trek: Generations instead.
