Born in Mojave, on the planet Earth, Christopher
Pike succeeds Captain Robert April as commanding officer of the U.S.S.
"Enterprise, a Constitutionclass starship, registry number NCC-1701, for
13 years. In 2263, he is promoted to the rank of fleet captain and command
of the Enterprise is turned over to James T. Kirk. Subsequently, Pike is
involved in a radioactive accident on board a class-J training ship during
"2266; the exposure to delta rays "leaves him wheelchair-bound. In 2267,
Commander Spock delivers him to the planet Talos IV. There, with the help
of the telepathic Talosians, Pike lives out a life of illusion in which his
devastating handicap no longer exists.
